Initial Ideas

For our group music video, me and two others have decided to make a music video to Korn's Narcissistic Cannibal featuring Skrillex and Kill The Noise, but check this out, because there's a twist.

Because the original song is sung by a man, we have found a cover of the song from a band called EarlyRise, who's main singer's voice is female, and we think that this would be PERFECT for our music video genre.

My group have already been coming up with ideas on what we can do within the music video, and now that we have the song choice in mind, our decisions are about to come clear.
We thought that we could contrast the music video with the song and make the protagonist of the video innocent, even though the lyrics suggest otherwise. When the melody of the song changes suddenly nearer to the end, we thought then we could subvert that and corrupt her innocence.

We also thought that maybe we could have some inter-textual references to Alice In Wonderland, possibly Little Red Riding Hood?

We were also really keen on the idea of filming in the forest, then colour correcting the footage to make it seem darker (because unless you have lights, footage doesn't come out great at night! Plus, I don't think it would be safe for a bunch of teenage girls lurking around in the woods with a camera when it's pitch black. That could turn into the Blair Witch Project all over again).

Genre Research: Alternative Rock

Alternative  Rock: The name given to rock music that didn't fit any other genre, but technical terms, it is usually any form of rock music that descended from punk rock.
Alternative rock music became popular in the 1990's but the history of alternative rock music goes back before then. Before Nirvana brought alternative rock music to the mainstream audience, the music genre had been gaining popularity with the students in university and music underground.
In the 1980's REM was making their start in alternative rock music and most of their airtime was given to by university radio stations. Students became their loyal fan base.

The popularity of alternative rock music came about after the grunge period.
Grunge: A type of alternative rock music that attacked commercialism. This started in Seattle, Washington.
It was ironic since it was this type of music that helped to create the commercial success for alternative rock music. Bands in this category are those such as: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Alternative rock music became noticed in Britain, where punk rock was more popular. Alternative rock music actually entered the mainstream radio stations earlier in Britain than it did in the United States. This gave alternative bands an international audience, even before the popularity of alternative music in the United States.

Behind The Name

Shotgun Records! This is the name of our group record label and it has a nice ring to it, but what is behind this name? To put it simply, last year we had to make a opening sequence and we decided to name our production company Shotgun Productions because we thought it sounded cool and like a real, official company. So when it came to making up a record label we thought that our production company would also have a record label: Shotgun Records. This keeps the name, that we've become quite attached to, within our group but instead of making opening sequences we will be making a music video!

If analysed our name also matches our song choice. A shotgun is a weapon and can create conflict, danger and pain which are all themes that we could include in our music video as they all relate back to the song. The 'records' part of the name is simply to identify that this particular part of Shotgun deals with music rather than films, like Shotgun Productions, but is still a part of that family.

Welcome to Shotgun Records!

Welcome to our new blog Shotgun Records! This blog was created for our A2 media course to document our project of making a music video. This blog will be behind-the-scenes and research based so we can keep track of everything we have done so far all in one place! We have chosen a song and now all we need to do is research some more and then start filming!
